What influenced the Art?
Nothing defines a trade or
profession better than the tools of that particular trade or profession.
So, when those tools are brought together in a form of art, they should,
with or without words be able to convey a meaning. This is the belief
of the artist, Dr. Kene Anamekwe.
This IMEF logo is a special
tribute to the Faculty at the University Of Tennessee College Of
Medicine in Chattanooga, who gave me the opportunity to produce this
art, as well as all its academic affiliates and those who have given
generously to the future of medical education.
The logo is also a tribute to
all physicians who, have through time, never relented but continued the
quest to broaden and enhance medical education with the end product
being sound and knowledgeable physicians. These physicians, who
ceaselessly study volumes of medical texts, keeping up with the most
recent researches and publications, also strive to ensure the ultimate
treatments for the diverse ailments of their patients.
Medicine, though, an ancient
profession is both art and science which is continually evolving and one
of the signature tools of the trade is the stethoscope. The advancements
in modern Medicine can be compared to the radically irresistible fun
colors of the stethoscope of today. Nevertheless, the science of
diagnosing disease has carried through centuries with development of
very sophisticated diagnostic tests and therapies for the prevention and
cure of disease and preservation of mankind.
In this piece of art, the color
orange is dear to our hearts as it represents the home color of the
University of Tennessee. In my view, it was not whether it had a place,
but how much of the space was its. The book is a reminder to all
physicians that knowledge is wealth and holds the key to a desirable
outcome for both physicians and patients. Honesty, humility,
perseverance and compassion are some of the virtues which we as
physicians must imbibe, to be able to make a connection with our
patients. The RX is the result of physician patient interaction and
recovery of our patients is the best reimbursement for our work and a
most desired outcome.
IMEF has chosen the definitive
goal of educating future physicians and by so doing strengthens the
Hippocratic Oath which bestows on every physician the awesome
responsibility of respect for patients, respect for colleagues,
confidentiality, the ability to accept limitation and humility to accept
wrong doing.
