The Internal Medicine Education Foundation primarily supports the
research and teaching activities of the Department of Medicine of the
University of Tennessee College of Medicine—Chattanooga Unit.
The faculty and internal medicine residents are local physicians who
are dedicated to the highest standards of education and research. Many
are your physicians.
Our residents are physicians who have graduated from medical schools
throughout the United States, predominantly from the Southeast and
Tennessee. They spend a three-year apprenticeship closely supervised by
our faculty, allowing them to become Board Certified in Internal
Medicine. Many of our graduates practice in the Chattanooga area and
improve the level of medical services in the region.
In addition, our department teaches more that 40 medical students
from the University of Tennessee College of Medicine, Memphis each
year. These students often return to Chattanooga for their Internal
Medicine residencies and become members of our academic community.

The Internal Medicine Education Foundation was founded in 1977 by
Dr. Jackson Yium to promote and encourage resident education and
research in internal medicine. The Foundation is a 501 (c) (3)
tax-exempt organization
